Volleyball Swept by Michigan Tech

Madelyn Krenz finished with a career-high 15 kills on Saturday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (9-6, 5-2 GLIAC) fell in straight sets to Michigan Tech (9-6, 4-3 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- WSU led 6-4 in the opening set after a MTU attack error but the Huskies would respond an hold onto an 11-9 advantage later in the set.  The Warriors regained the lead, 12-11, on an ace from Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central).  After being tied at 16-16, Michigan Tech rallied off three straight points to take a 19-16 lead and force WSU to use its final timeout.  The Huskies controlled the remainder of the set and won 25-23.

- The visitors won the first five points of the second set and led 9-2.  A 6-0 run by the Green & Gold pulled the Warriors with a point at 14-13.  Olivia Fike (North Branch, Mich.) capped the rally with her first kill of the contest. A 4-1 run later in the game allowed WSU to tie the set and eventually take a 20-19 lead on a combo block from Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) and Fike.  The teams traded points near the end and the set was tied 22-22 and 23-23 before MTU collected the final two points for another 25-23 victory.

- Michigan Tech led the third set 4-1 and eventually 12-4 as the Huskies controlled the temp and momentum.  A late comeback attempt narrowed the deficit to six at 19-13 but MTU ended the set and the match on a 6-2 run to win 25-15.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
- Madelyn Krenz (Chenoa, Ill. / Prairie Central) tallied a career-high 15 kills.  Natalie Breault (Bad Axe, Mich.) dished out 35 assists, while Richardson and Rodriguez both post 10 digs.

UP NEXT
- WSU travels to Northwood on Friday for a 7 p.m. match against the Timberwolves.
