Ferris State Tennis Teams Close Out Florida Trip With Big Wins Over Mercyhurst

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's and women's tennis teams both closed out their annual spring break trips with convincing wins on Friday (March 11) as FSU topped Mercyhurst in dual action near Orlando, Fla.

The Bulldog men's team earned a 7-0 win over the Lakers with the women's squad posting a 5-2 triumph in the non-league affair.

With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 8-2 overall this year in men's tennis action along with 5-4 in women's play.

"It was a great finish to our trip," said FSU head coach Mark Doren. "Both teams finished 2-2 on the trip and we learned a lot about ourselves against some great teams.

"We were able to get in some much needed outdoor tennis and are now ready to take on the GLIAC season," he added. "The women's match today was at 3-2 and freshman Kennedy Dumas came upward with a clinching win. It was shortly followed by a great three-set win by Sam Stephenson."

Both Ferris State return to the court as FSU opens GLIAC play against Grand Valley State on Saturday, March 19, at the Racquet and Fitness Center in Big Rapids.
