The Warriors played on home court for the first time since February 6.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (2-2 overall) defeated #25-University of Findlay (5-2 overall) by a 4-3 score on Saturday afternoon inside the Duchene Athletic Facility.

The Warriors played at home for the first time since February 6.  WSU handed the Oilers their first loss of the spring after UF claimed four consecutive matches over GLIAC programs to begin 2024.

DOUBLES
The Green and Gold had to play an uphill battle after dropping the doubles point to Findlay.

WSU's top flight team of Anais Ruyssen (Nantes, France) and Marta Komar (Inowroclaw, Poland) won 6-1 over Zuzanna Krygier and Emily Hadler for Wayne State's lone doubles win of the day.  The Warrior duo have now won five of their first six contests together in the category.

At the No. 3 spot, Justine Beaulieu (Montreal, Que.) and Dessyre Obedencio (Warren, Mich. / Cousino) lost 6-1 to Madison Arquette and Valentina Salek.

Falling 6-4 at the No. 2 spot were Malak Arafat (Alexandria, Egypt) and Martyna Szpakowska (Gdansk, Poland) to UF's Elina Ivanova and Anamarija Kovacevic, which allowed the visitors to officially claim the opening point of the afternoon.

SINGLES
The hosts rebounded to grab four of the six singles matches, which proved to be enough to overcome the early 1-0 deficit on the scoreboard.

Arafat notched a win in the first finished singles affair, downing Ivanova 6-3, 6-1 at the second position.

The next two completed matches also went to the Green and Gold.  Szpakowska handled Ivanova Lucero 6-3, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot, while Shanice Weekes (London, England) obtained her first dual match victory of the campaign in her second attempt.  She defeated Lidia Laskova by matching 6-2 set scores at the No. 6 position.

Ruyssen officially secured the win for WSU at the first flight, as the redshirt junior won a three-set thriller.  After dropping the first set 6-4 to Kovacevic, Ruyssen tallied triumphs of 7-6 (7-2) and 7-5 to complete the comeback effort.

At the No. 3 spot, Komar nabbed a first set triumph over Salek (7-5), but fell 6-4 in the second and narrowly came up short in a tie-breaker (7-5) to lose the match in three sets.

Beaulieu put in a strong effort at the fifth spot against Hadler, but suffered a three set loss (6-4, 4-6, 5-7) after notching the opening set of her singles match.  The final two Findlay wins made the tally 4-3 on the scoreboard.
