Ferris State Men's Tennis Beats GVSU To Reach GLIAC Tourney Title For 5th-Straight Year

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's tennis squad advanced to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament Championship match for the fifth consecutive year as the Bulldogs upset second-seeded rival Grand Valley State 4-2 in semifinal-round play on Saturday (April 27) in Midland.

The Bulldogs, who are the three-time defending GLIAC Tournament Champions, will now face top-seeded Wayne State in the league tournament finale on Sunday morning beginning at 9 a.m. (ET) at the Greater Midland Tennis Center.

In Saturday's semifinals against the Lakers, Ferris State fell behind early as GVSU won the doubles point by capturing the second and third flights in the lineup.

However, much like the third-seeded Bulldogs did in Friday night's quarterfinal win over Ashland, FSU rallied from behind in singles play to earn the win. The Lakers got a straight-set win at one singles, but Ferris State took the third thru sixth flights in the lineup to garner the triumph.

Both Mathis Guerre and Connor Douglas were straight-set winners at the fourth and sixth spots, respectively, while the Bulldogs also got three-set triumphs from Pablo Munoz Baroja at three singles and Ayush Deswal at the fifth flight in the lineup.

The win avenged an earlier regular-season setback to the Lakers on the road in GLIAC play this year.

The Bulldogs have now won four consecutive matches overall this campaign.

Heading into Sunday's title match, the Bulldogs have presently captured four of the last seven GLIAC Tournament Championships.
