Ferris State Wraps Up GLIAC Tennis Tourney With Victory Over SVSU

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's tennis squad closed out the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Tournament with a victory on Sunday (Oct. 27) as FSU beat Saginaw Valley State 4-1 in Midland.

The Bulldogs claimed the fifth-place match at the annual league event held inside the Greater Midland Tennis Center to finish the conference tournament with a 2-1 mark.

After falling to Northwood in round one on Friday night, the fourth-seeded Bulldogs recorded back-to-back wins over eighth-seeded Purdue Northwest and sixth-seeded SVSU to conclude the event.

In the win over Saginaw Valley State, the Bulldogs swept the top two doubles positions with identical 6-2 wins at the first and second flights for the first point of the match.

The Bulldogs then came back in singles play to win three of the first four completed positions with straight-set victories at four and five singles along with a three-set triumph in the sixth flight. SVSU's lone win came at two singles.

Ferris State wrapped up the fall season with an 8-4 overall record following completion of the league tournament.

During the league tournament, a pair of Bulldogs also were announced as all-conference picks for the fall with Isabela Paixao garnering All-GLIAC First Team recognition and Agata Klak named to the GLIAC Honorable Mention squad.

Prior to the conference tournament, Ferris State wrapped up regular-season play in the GLIAC with a 6-3 overall mark while placing fourth in conference action during the regular-season. The Bulldogs picked up two more conference wins this fall over a year ago and the fourth-place GLIAC finish was the program's best since 2016.

Ferris State will open the spring season in February.
