Warriors Hold Off Bulldogs In GLIAC Opening Doubleheader

Detroit, Mich. - The Ferris State University softball team lost their Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) opening twin-set to the Wayne State Warriors Thursday (March 31) 6-3 in the first game and 8-0 in the second game on the road in Detroit.

In game one, Ferris State built a 3-1 lead by the top of the third inning. Sophomore shortstop Kacey Bouche opened the Bulldog scoring when she launched her second home run of the season over the left field fence. Sophomore first baseman Evelyn Blood followed with a single down the left field line to score senior center fielder Paig Kortz. Sophomore second baseman Josie Prince singled in Blood later in the inning.

The Warriors replied with four consecutive runs, three of which coming in the bottom of the sixth inning to take the contest. 

In the circle, sophomore starting pitcher Aryn Gallacher went 4.2 innings and spread six hits and three runs while walking a pair on the day. In relief, sophomore Mckenzie Cleland took the loss in 1.1 innings, allowing three runs on four hits. Paige Ameel picked up the win for the Warriors. Rainey Psenicka had three RBI's in the contest to pace Wayne State.

The Warriors did all of their offensive damage over the course of two innings in the second contest. After working a scoreless first inning, Ferris State senior pitcher Kristie Gray was tagged for four runs, three on a bases clearing triple by Wayne State's Shelby Miller. Freshman Krsitina Baar relieved her to finish the inning.

In the third inning, Wayne State ran across four more runs. FSU's Gray returned to the circle in the third inning to get out of the inning for the Bulldogs. Gray took the loss on the day.

Both Ferris State's Gray and Baar struck out one batter. Gray allowed five hits and four runs, while Baar walked three, allowed three hits and four runs on the day. 

In the circle, Wayne State's Alexis Bonk held off the Bulldogs in a five-inning final, striking out seven, scattering four Bulldog base runners (one hit, three walks). 

Ferris State heads south to take on nationally #7 ranked Grand Valley State Saturday (April 2) in Allendale. First pitch in the double header is scheduled for 1:00 pm ET.
