Golden Bears score double-digit win over Rockhurst

Concordia leads throughout in strong home victory

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Concordia-St. Paul (4-2) scored the first five goals in the first five-plus minutes of play and never looked back in securing a 19-8 win over Rockhurst (0-2) on Sunday afternoon at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium.

The Golden Bears went 3-1 on their 4-game homestand and head to Florida for three games next week on March 7, 9, 10 to close out their non-conference schedule. CSP will face tough tests on its spring trip, facing a pair of nationally-ranked opponents, #18 Seton Hill (Pa.) at a neutral site and #8 Rollins on the road with a neutral site game against Stonehill (Mass.) in between.

Concordia picked up a pair of 5-goal performances from senior Katie Moynihan and freshman Maddy Seifert while senior Delaney Davidson matched their five points on four goals and an assist.

Seifert had a big day all-around, with six caused turnovers and six ground balls while K.Moynihan's five goals, five points and five ground balls were all new career-highs while her two caused turnovers matched a career-high. In her debut season, she's second on the team with 15 goals and leads the club with 13 caused turnovers on the year and Davidson has a team-high 17 goals scored.

Fourth year sophomore Molly Moynihan paced the team offensively with a career-high seven points, tied for the fifth most in a game in team history while matching her own school record with five assists for the second time this year. In just six games, she's produced 25 points, just one shy of her total from last year set in 10 games, while her 12 assists is a new season-high and her 13 goals are just two shy of last year's 15.

The Golden Bears used possession to their advantage, as a 12-7 edge in first half draw controls allowed them to set up an 11-6 lead at the break, eventually holding a 19-12 margin on the draw. Senior Sarah Pierson, the program's all-time leader in draw controls with 123, finished with a team-high seven and added three points on two goals and an assist. Sophomore Hailey Hartlage was also a force on the draw, collecting six as she leads the team with 23 on the season.

The possession game also played the full field, as Concordia cleared 19-of-20 while holding Rockhurst to 13-of-21 for the day. The Golden Bears committed just 18 turnovers to Rockhurst's 26.

It all added up to a 38-22 final shot margin, and junior goalie Candace McDole capitalized in the net, saving half of Rockhurst's eight shots on goal including five in the third quarter to prevent Rockhurst from gaining momentum for a comeback.

After Concordia scored the first five goals of the game, the Hawks were able to slowly chip away, using three straight goals from the end of the first quarter through the early second as part of a 5-2 spurt to cut it to 9-6 with 4:19 to play in the first half.

But Seifert and M.Moynihan each scored off of free position shots to close out the half, restoring the five goal margin entering the break. From there, Rockhurst wouldn't come closer than four.

The Hawks were led by Logan Derosia and Helen Krause with four points each, as the duo each scored twice and assisted twice. Rockhurst used a pair of goalies, with Sydney Shindler taking the loss after allowing the 11 first half goals while making seven saves. Madeline Morrison worked the second half, also saving seven shots while allowing eight goals.
