Volleyball Posts 1-1 Record On Second Day Of West Georgia Invitational

Middle hitter Lauren Townley ripped 12 kills in the Pioneers' victory over Georgia College.

The Malone University volleyball team wrapped up its season-opening trip the University of West Georgia Invitational on Saturday morning by splitting a pair of four-set matches.  The Pioneers opened  the day with a 25-14, 20-25, 25-21, 25-17 triumph over Georgia College before falling to Valdosta State (GA) University in the weekend finale by scores of 17-25, 16-25, 25-18, and 24-26.

In the opener vs. Georgia College, outside hitter Taylor Slauterbeck and middle hitter Lauren Townley both tallied 12 kills.  Anna Hays followed closely with 11 kills.  Middle hitter Elizabeth Maczuzak added eight kills.  Setter Kimberly McCracken registered 41 assists and 18 digs while libero Katie Hasebein racked up 20 digs.

Against Valdosta State, Slauterbeck smashed 17 kills and scooped up 13 digs.  Townley recorded eight kills with Maczuzak contributing seven kills and three blocks (two solo).

In recognition of their strong play throughout the weekend, Slauterbeck and McCracken were named to the UWG Invitational All-Tournament Team.

Malone will return to action next weekend with three matches at the University of Findlay Tournament.  The Pioneers will face Rockhurst (MO) University on Friday before taking on Indiana (PA) University and Southern Indiana University on Saturday.
