PARK FOREST, Ill. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis team (13-4 overall, 1-0 GLIAC) kicked off its GLIAC schedule with a 6-1 victory over Purdue Northwest (2-8 overall, 0-1 GLIAC) Friday afternoon at the Park Forest Tennis Club.

SINGLES
The Warriors earned five wins in singles, as No. 1 through No. 5 singles all came out on top.

Dom Spicer (London, England) collected a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.

Playing at No. 2 singles, Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany) won his match 6-1, 6-1.

Ben Lakeman (Penzance Cornwall, England) didn't drop a game, claiming a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 3 singles.  Lakeman earned the team's game ball, which is given to the player who competed the best throughout the match.

Daniel Grey (Wiesdbaden Germany) was strong at No. 4 singles, posting a 6-1, 6-1 win.

At No. 5 singles, Cedric Drenth (Sulzbach, Germany) was able to defeat his opponent, 6-3, 6-2.

DOUBLES
The Warriors came ready to play in doubles, as each pairing came away with a victory.

Drenth and Grey posted a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles.

Spicer and Luke Laws (Sunderland, England) were able to upend their opponent, 6-4, at No. 2 doubles.

Playing at No. 3 doubles, Karcz and Lakeman recorded a 6-4 victory.

FROM COACH MORROW
"Doubles, we played solid.  No real complaints with doubles.  Singles, No. 1 through No. 3 singles started.  We only had three courts, and they really stepped up.  All of them started the match as well as they could and played very complete matches.  Very happy there.  No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 had to wait until the courts opened.  The courts opened at about the same time.  Daniel (Grey) stepped up and played really well, with a 6-1, 6-1 win.  Cedric (Drenth) played fine.  Ryan (Okonski) was in the match," coach Bryan Morrow said.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will remain on the road for a match against Davenport on March 26th.  That match will begin at 11 AM at Grand Rapids Racquet Club.
