Ferris State Volleyball Sweeps Rival GVSU On The Road For 14th Consecutive Victory

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University women's volleyball squad earned a big Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road victory on Friday (Oct. 29) as the Bulldogs topped West Michigan rival Grand Valley State in a 3-0 sweep at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale.

The Bulldogs claimed a 25-18, 25-21, 26-24 win over the Lakers for their 14th-straight victory this campaign.

The win also gave FSU a two-match advantage atop the GLIAC South Division standings as the Lakers had entered the contest only a match behind the Bulldogs at the top of the divisional leaderboard.

The Bulldogs compiled a .256 hitting figure in the win and produced 47 kills with only 13 attack mistakes on 133 total attempts. FSU netted 69 digs and had two aces with four block assists overall.

Senior hitter Katie O'Connell fueled the Bulldog victory with a team-high 16 kills and she added 16 digs. Middle hitter Kira Merkle also reached double-digits with 10 kills while Olivia Henneman-Dallape came up with nine kills.

The Bulldogs were led defensively by senior libero Nina Gorgijevska, who finished with 21 digs. Freshman setter Kaylee Maat added 11 digs and had 34 assists.

Ferris State held Grand Valley State to a .140 attack figure with the Lakers totaling 42 kills and 21 errors on 150 hitting attempts. GVSU finished with 60 digs and four aces to go with a solo block and two block assists.

The Lakers were led by Jaelianna Primus' 12 total kills. Abby Graham added 10 digs and Julia Blaney totaled a team-high 14 digs.

With the win, the Bulldogs are now 19-4 overall and 9-2 in the GLIAC. The Lakers fell to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in conference play.

The victory represented FSU's 11th sweep in its last 13 matches overall this year. It also came in the Bulldogs' lone match of the weekend.

Ferris State will return to action on the road next Friday, Nov. 5, at Purdue Northwest with match time set for 8 p.m. (ET) in Hammond, Ind. FSU then visits Wisconsin-Parkside on Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. (ET).
