COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (1-1) scored its first win of the 2022 season in dramatic fashion on Sunday afternoon in a 14-13 overtime win at the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs at Mountain Lion Stadium.
Senior defender
Mary Keating sent the game winner into the back of the net with 8.3 seconds left in overtime.
It was a big bounce-back win for Concordia, who nearly produced a comeback win over #9 Regis just two days earlier before falling late in the fourth quarter in the season opener.
Concordia will return to the field for its home opener on Friday, February 18 for a 6 p.m. start against Quincy (Ill.) at the Concordia Dome at Sea Foam Stadium before hosting #1 Lindenwood on Sunday, February 20 at noon.
Sophomore goalie
Maddy Huebner had a big day in the cage with a career-high 17 saves, going the distance for just under 66 minutes of playing time while holding a .567 save percentage for the win.
Fourth-year sophomore
Molly Moynihan had a career-day in the win offensively, scoring a career-high five goals while matching her career-high of six points. She also had three ground balls and three caused turnovers in a well-rounded effort.
Defensively,
Meghan McGowan led the squad with five ground balls and added a caused turnover.
The game was tight throughout, with the largest lead being a two goal margin for each team. UCCS held the early two goal lead, 3-1 in the first quarter after three straight goals, but Concordia's 3-0 run late in the third quarter flipped a 10-9 deficit into a 12-10 lead after M.Moynihan tied it at 10-10 and put in the go-ahead goal for an 11-10 lead with
Hailey Hartlage giving CSP it's first 2-goal lead with 23 seconds left in the third.
After the Mountain Lions cut into the lead four minutes into the fourth quarter, Concordia first year transfer
Taylor Preece pushed it back to 13-11 with 7:13 to go on a feed from
Erica Peterson.
But UCCS flipped the momentum, scoring with 6:18 and tying it at 13-13 with 4:19 left to send it to overtime.
Senior
Sarah Pierson had a big first quarter, helping producing three points on two goals and an assist. Hartlage and
Delaney Davidson each had 2-goal games, as well while Preece had two points with a goal and an assist.
UCCS had four players produce 2-goal games with Natalie Church and Audrey Napp each contributing an assist for a pair of 3-point performances.
Mountain Lion goalie Madison McGriff had a pair of saves and through two games this season, CSP's two goalies have racked-up 29 saves while its two RMAC opponents have combined for only three saves against Concordia's efficient shooters.
