Golden Bears cruise to 19-goal shutout win

Concordia evens record at 3-3 in advance of top-10 opponent

LAKE WALES, Fla. - Concordia-St. Paul women's lacrosse (3-3) responded to a week of travel disruptions with a commanding 19-0 win on Monday evening at Warner University (0-3) in the team's Florida opener.

The Golden Bears will now set their sights on a top-10 opponent, heading to Winter Park, Florida for a 3 p.m. (CST) contest against #10 Rollins College.

Concordia wasted no time asserting its dominance on Monday, as freshman Susie Monson took the opening draw and scored nine seconds later. It was the first of two goals in the opening minute as CSP was able to push the game into running time (10-goal margin) with 3:39 to play in the first quarter.

Concordia led 11-0 at the quarter break and scored seven more times despite the running time in the second quarter for an 18-0 halftime advantage.

The Golden Bears' only second half goal came from sophomore defender Meghan McGowan as 16 different field players scored goals and all 17 players aside from the goalies tabulated points in the contest.

Freshman Lauren Sheets had a pair of goals and an assist while Monson had a goal and two assists in the team's only three-point performance in a balanced effort.

Joining Sheets with two-goal games were reserves Sara Kaiser and Laurelle Weisbrod.

Senior goalie Candace McDole registered three saves in the first half while being credited with the win while junior Maddy Huebner picked up four saves in 30 shutout minutes in the second half.

Monson led the team with four draw controls while freshman Claire Flahaven had three ground balls with freshmen Anna Palony and Kennedy Bolander each securing a pair of caused turnovers.
