Big Second Half Gives Ferris State GLIAC Road Triumph At Davenport

Big Rapids, Mich. - A huge second half lifted the Ferris State University women's basketball squad to its 12th victory of the campaign as the Bulldogs fought back to earn a 72-55 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) road win at Davenport on Saturday (Jan. 15) afternoon.

FSU fell behind by 11 points in the opening half before cutting the margin to two at the break. In the second half, though, Ferris State took control and used a big third period to garner the win.

The Bulldogs outscored DU 24-7 in the third quarter and held the Panthers to only a four-of-28 performance from the floor in the second half of action. Davenport finished one-of-15 (6.7%) in the third and only three-of-13 (23.1%) in the final quarter.

Freshman forward Mya Hiram sparked FSU with a team-high 15 points off the bench while Zoe Anderson notched 12 points in a balanced effort. The Bulldogs utilized 11 different players in the game and 10 scored with eight notching at least six points overall.

Ferris State finished with a strong 52-31 rebounding effort and overcame 19 turnovers in the victory. FSU outscored DU 38-16 inside the paint and 16-3 in fast break production while racing to the triumph.

The Bulldogs shot 44.6% overall, including a 60% (9-15) figure in the third quarter. Ferris State made six-of-16 (37.5%) long range tries and went 16-of-27 (59.3%) at the free throw stripe.

Meanwhile, Davenport netted only a 28.8% shooting figure for the game and managed eight-of-27 (29.6%) three's in addition to 13-of-19 (68.4%) free throws.

The Panthers were led by the combination of Toni Grace and Ajai Simmons as each finished with 14 points in the game.

Ferris State improved to 12-4 overall and 6-2 in the GLIAC with the win.

The Bulldogs will host Lake Superior State on Thursday, Jan. 20, with tipoff set for 5:30 p.m. (ET) inside Jim Wink Arena.
