Men's Basketball Stumbles at Parkside, 68-64

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball team (7-4 GLIAC) continued its road trip at Parkside (8-4 GLIAC) on Friday evening and the Warriors saw their four-game winning streak come to an end, 68-64.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Early in the contest, redshirt junior Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich. / River Rouge) put the Warriors on top 4-3 with a 12-foot jumper at the 17:18 mark and redshirt sophomore Avery Lewis (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Huron) made it 6-3 with two points on the next possession.  Freshman Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) connected on back-to-back buckets to keep the visitors on top 10-8 with 13:45 left in the opening half.  The see-saw affair continued over the next five minutes and a dunk by Lewis tied the game at 14-14 at the 11:14 mark.  The margin grew to 18-14 after a pair of free throws from sophomore Kylin Grant (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) and another layup from Lewis.  A triple by Owens-White with seven minutes left before halftime gave the Green & Gold a 23-19 advantage.  The Rangers came back to take a 25-23 lead at the 5:30 mark on a four-point play from Vinson Sigmon, Jr.  Owens-White tied the game at 27-27 with a basket with 2:33 to play.  Redshirt senior Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) kept the scored dead locked at 29-29 with a 15-footer.  After Colin O'Rourke free throw pushed Parkside in front 30-29 but a emphatic dunk by Grant as time expired set the halftime tally at 31-30 in favor of the Warriors.

Junior Antonio Marshall (Detroit, Mich. / Martin Luther King) knocked down a three-pointer to begin the second half, extending WSU's lead to 34-30 at the 18:54 mark.  The Warriors continued to have the momentum early in the second stanza and a layup from Neely pushed the margin to 38-32 with 17:41 remaining.  Avery Lewis made two free throws to give Wayne State its largest lead of the game, 40-32, at the 17:04 mark.  Two points from Neely kept the Green & Gold advantage at eight, 44-36, with 12:39 to play in regulation.  With 11 minutes left, a bucket by Neely made it 48-39 in favor of Wayne State.  However, a very quick 7-0 run brought the Rangers within one, 48-47, at the 9:24 mark.  The momentum stayed with the home team and Parkside would take a 53-52 lead with basket by Solomon Oreagbu with 4:59 remaining.  WSU regained the lead, 56-54, on a layup by Neely but UWP would responded with a 10-0 rally to lead 66-58 at the 14-second mark.  Two late triples from Owens-White would be too late as Parkside would collect the 68-64 triumph.
