SVSU earns 2-0 shutout at ODU

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Saginaw Valley State University women's soccer team continued its early-season success with a shutout victory on the road against Ohio Dominican University Sunday in Columbus, Ohio.

The Cardinals took the lead late in the first half on the third goal of the weekend from freshman Stephanie Strong. SVSU found an insurance goal in the second half and held on for a 2-0 win.

The win pushes the Cardinals to 3-0-1 to start the season.

Strong opened the scoring in the 42nd minute with her fourth of the season on an assist from Gabby Green. The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals until Jensen Taylor scored her first of the year in the 73rd minute on a feed from Reegan Kingpavong.

The Cardinals outshot ODU 11-8. SVSU goalkeeper Olivia Argeros need to make just one save to earn the shutout in net to improve to 3-0-1.

SVSU has a week off before opening Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play against Davenport University at 11 am on Sunday, Sept. 19 in Caledonia, Mich.
