GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Davenport University rallied in the second half and held off the Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference matchup Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.

The Cardinals led by 12 points at the break, but the Panthers outscored SVSU 47-33 in the second half to take the win 79-77. The loss drops SVSU to 5-3 overall and 1-1 in the GLIAC.

How it Happened:

• Down 18-13 in the first half, SVSU went on a 12-0 run to take a 25-18 lead. The run included a dunk from Maurice Barnett and a 3-pointer from James Toohey.
• Toohey hit a pair of 3-pointers around the five-minute mark of the first half to extend the Cardinal lead to 10 points.
• After the Panthers closed the gap to five points, Darnell Hoskins Jr. scored the final four points of the first 20 minutes to give the Cardinals a 44-32 lead at the break.
• The Panthers began chipping away at the SVSU lead, quickly shaving the deficit to a single point just over four minutes into the second half.
• Davenport took the lead at 50-48, but a jumper from Delano Smith put the Cardinals back in front shortly after.
• Davenport went back in front, but a layup from Barnett put the Cardinals within a point with 1:16 remaining.
• The Cardinals missed the go-ahead bucket in the final seconds and Davenport held on for the win.

• Delano Smith finished with 16 points on 6-of-22 shooting, recording a team-high seven assists.
