Big Second Half Fuels Ferris State To League Home Victory Over Lake Superior State

Big Rapids, Mich. - The Ferris State University men's basketball squad had six players reach double-figure scoring and used a big second-half effort to register a 95-80 home win over Lake Superior State on Thursday (Jan. 20) night inside FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs stayed perfect in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) play by beating the Lakers in the league tilt to move to 13-3 overall and 8-0 atop the GLIAC.

Ferris State shot 50% from the floor in the victory and held a decisive 50-28 rebounding margin in topping LSSU, which fell to 9-5 overall and 4-4 in league play.

Senior guard Walt Kelser scored 15 for the Bulldogs, including 13 in the second half as Ferris State outscored the Lakers 52-41 over the final 20 minutes after grabbing a 43-39 halftime lead. FSU trailed by 11 points in the first half before storming back and moving in front by four at the break on a last-second three from Ben Davidson.

Along with Kelser, the trio of seniors Lee Higgins and Dorian Aluyi along with Davidson each added 13 points apiece. Aluyi recorded a double-double with 12 boards as did senior big man Logan Ryan, who compiled 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds.

Additionally, FSU's Mykel Bingham produced 11 points off the bench in 11 minutes of action, going a perfect five-of-five from the floor.

All 10 players that saw action for the Bulldogs scored in the victory. In addition, all 10 also had at least one assist apiece as FSU registered 28 total assists for the game, including seven from freshman guard Ethan Erickson in addition to his nine points overall.

The Bulldogs made 12-of-25 (48%) three's and connected on 13-of-19 (68.4%) free throws. LSSU finished shooting 45% from the floor and converted 12-of-27 (44.4%) three's along with 14-of-23 (60.9%) free throws.

Overall, Ferris State outscored the Lakers 40-26 in the paint and 21-4 on the offensive glass along with 29-15 in fast break opportunities.

The Lakers were led by Malek Adams' game-high 19 points. David Wren added 16 points off the bench with Justin Fischer totaling 13 points.

The Bulldogs, ranked 24th this week in the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Division II Rankings along with 15th in the Division II Sports Information Directors of America (D2SIDA) poll, will embark on a three-game road stretch next week.

FSU opens the action on Monday (Jan. 24) night on the road against the Northwood Timberwolves in Midland with tipoff set for 8 p.m. (ET).
