ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Wayne State University women's basketball team (10-5 overall, 3-3 GLIAC) faced a stiff task in top-ranked Grand Valley State (14-1 overall, 5-0 GLIAC) on Saturday afternoon.  The Lakers defeated the Warriors by a score of 81-48 inside GVSU Fieldhouse Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter
Grand Valley State scored the game's first nine points as part of a 15-3 run that lasted just over five minutes.

From there until the final first half buzzer though, Wayne State outscored the home team 6-5 to make it an 11-point affair, 20-9.

Second Quarter
Gabi Lutchka (Grass Lake, Mich.) cashed a three-pointer just over 30 seconds into the second period to pull WSU within eight, 20-12.

Following GVSU hitting one of two at the free throw line, Kate McArthur (Warren, Mich. / Cousino (Central Michigan)) made a driving layup to cut the deficit to seven at 21-14, the smallest it had been since 4-0 early in the first.

Grand Valley State countered with a 12-4 spurt over the course of the next four minutes that stretched its advantage back to 15, 33-18.
