Men's Tennis Edges Florida Southern, 4-2

The Warriors will return to Detroit to host Tiffin on March 17.

LAKELAND, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (9-3 overall) notched a 4-2 victory at Florida Southern (5-7 overall) on Tuesday afternoon.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) were first off the courts after winning their No. 3 doubles match 6-2 against Victor Ahlbeck and John Sakellarides.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) notched a 6-2 victory over Brandon Pham and Oscar Sohl.

At the first flight seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) fell 6-4 to Tim Becker and Brian Pham.

SINGLES RESULTS
Sammons was the first off the courts after falling to John Sakellarides at No. 6 singles (6-4, 6-3).

At No. 5 singles, freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) retired due to injury from his match vs. Lennart Vossgaetter (7-6(6), 4-1).


Renaudie claimed the first singles win for the Warriors in his second-flight match versus Ahlbeck (6-4, 6-0).

At No. 3 singles, Mertz notched a win over Sohl (6-3, 6-4).

Vane clinched the WSU victory after winning his No. 4 singles match vs. Brian Pham (6-3, 6-4).

The No. 1 singles match between Karcz and Becker went unfinished (6-2, 5-6) after Vane confirmed a Warrior win.

WSU will host Tiffin on Sunday, March 17, for an 11:00 a.m. match.
