DETROIT -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (5-1 overall, 0-0 GLIAC) blanked Indiana Tech (4-6 overall, 0-0 WHAC), 7-0, in its home match on Saturday.
DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore
Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior
Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) finished their match first after a 6-2 victory over Tiago Neves and Brunno Storani at No. 2 doubles.
At No. 1 doubles, seniors
Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and
Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) won 6-3 against Rui Lima and Alvaro Garrido.
The No. 3 doubles flight was the last off the courts, following a 6-4 win by redshirt junior
Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman
Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) over Alvaro Gomez and Pablo Bono.
SINGLES RESULTS
Vane won his match against Neves at the first flight, without allowing any points in the second set (6-2, 6-0).
Mertz was next off the courts at No. 4 singles, claiming all six points in the second set against Lima (6-1, 6-0).
At No. 2 singles, Karcz won his match (6-1, 6-4) versus Storani.
Renaudie notched a victory at the third singles flight against Garrido (6-1, 6-4).
Sammons claimed a No. 6 singles win in his match vs. Lucas Braga (6-1, 6-2).
Rink was last off the courts at No. 5 singles, winning his first set in a tiebreaker and claiming the second set against Bono (7-6(5), 6-2).
