DETROIT -- The Wayne State University women's tennis team (4-1 overall, 3-1 GLIAC) swept Saginaw Valley State University (3-2 overall, 3-2 GLIAC) in their first home match of the season, 7-0.
DOUBLES RECAP
First off the court was the duo of sophomore
Brianna Douglas (Dayton, Ohio / Chaminade Julienne) and senior
Astrid Ciellza. Â At three doubles, they won against Taylor McLaughlin and Nicole Johnson (6-2).
Sophomore
Linda Liong (Tanjung Kidurong, Malaysia) and freshman
Laura Cazacu (London, England) finished their match with a 6-1 win over Joanne Gao and Maya Campbell.
The last flight to finish was one doubles. Â Senior
Dasha Kuznetsova (Moscow, Russia) and redshirt sophomore
Khadija Da-Silva (Burlington, Ont.) defeated their opponents Maddie Miller and Gyselle Daza Gutierrez (6-3).
SINGLES RECAP
At one singles, Kuznetsova was the first flight done with a win against Miller (6-3, 6-2).
Cazacu played four singles and walked off the court with a victory over Campbell (6-4, 6-2).
Liong was the next singles player to finish. Â At the second flight, she defeated Gao (6-1, 6-2).
In her first match of the season, Da-Silva came out strong at three singles with a win over McLaughlin (6-0, 7-5).
At six singles, freshman
Carla Jewell (Hobart, Ind.) swept her Cardinal opponent Johnson (6-0, 6-0).
Last off the court was sophomore
Tanja Skalda (Prien Am Chiemsee). Â Playing five singles, Skalda won her match against Gutierrez (6-3, 6-4).
