Huge Second Half Gets Ferris State Back On Track In GLIAC Big Monday Triumph

Big Rapids, Mich. - The nationally 12th-ranked Ferris State University men's basketball squad got back on track in a big way, utilizing a huge second half outburst to beat Northwood 92-71 in Monday (Feb. 14) night at FSU's Jim Wink Arena.

The Bulldogs, who were coming off back-to-back road setbacks, fought NU back and forth in the opening half of action, grabbing a 40-39 lead at the break.

However, in the second half, the Bulldogs ran away from Northwood, outscoring the Timberwolves 52-32 in the period to improve to 19-5 overall and a first-place 14-2 in the GLIAC.

The Bulldogs shot 51% from the floor for the night and hit 10-of-20 (50%) triples, including eight-of-14 (57.1%) from long range over the final 20 minutes of the game. FSU also went 22-of-27 (81.5%) from the free throw line in a game that featured a total of 47 fouls called.

Four Bulldog players reached double-figures on the night with sophomore Ben Davidson pouring in a team-high 21 points while knocking down five-of-eight tries from the three-point arc. Senior center Logan Ryan added 20 points for FSU, which also got 18 points from graduate senior Lee Higgins in addition to 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds from senior forward Dorian Aluyi.

Ferris State shared the ball well as the Bulldogs finished with 27 total assists, including nine from freshman Jimmy Scholler along with six by senior guard Walt Kelser.

Defensively, the Bulldogs limited Northwood to 39.1% shooting overall and held NU to 31.4% in the second half. NU finished five-of-18 (27.8%) from the arc and 16-of-21 (76.2%) at the free throw stripe.

The Bulldogs also generated eight steals and three blocked shots while forcing 13 Northwood turnovers in the game. FSU held a 12-7 margin in points off turnovers and outscored the Timberwolves 38-28 inside the paint along with 23-6 on the break.

Northwood was paced by Jack Ammerman with a game-high 26 points. Kenneth Ganley, Jr., added 17 points and Ramelle Arnold scored 14 points with NU falling to 4-16 overall and 2-11 in the GLIAC.

The win gave the Bulldogs a regular-season sweep over NU, which will depart the league at the end of the season.

The Bulldogs will seek their seventh 20-win campaign in the last eight seasons as they hit the road this Thursday (Feb. 17) to face Wisconsin-Parkside in Kenosha, Wis. Tipoff is set for 8:30 p.m. (ET). Presently, FSU has a one-game lead over second place Michigan Tech atop the GLIAC with four regular-season games remaining on the slate.
