Laker Men's Basketball Defeat Huskies to Move to 3-0 in GLIAC Play

HOUGHTON, Mich. - The Lake Superior State University men's basketball team (4-4, 3-0 GLIAC) moved to 3-0 in conference play after coming away with a 73-63 victory on the road over the Michigan Tech Huskies (2-8, 0-3 GLIAC) on Friday.

Both teams battled early, but the Lakers were able to push ahead with a 10-0 run to take a 16-7 lead that featured a pair of baskets from Caden Ebeling (Shelby Twp., Mich.). The Huskies responded, but Ebeling halted them in their tracks with a tough finish with a foul. C.J. Robinson (Clarkston, Mich.) would then close out the opening half with a three-pointer as the Lakers took a 26-16 lead into the halftime break.

Kemon Bassett (Detroit, Mich.) struck quickly coming out of the break as both teams went back and forth early in the second half. Both teams always seemed to have an answer for one another. The Huskies scored down low, but Kingsley Perkins (Ypsilanti, Mich.) cleaned up the offensive glass on the other end. The Huskies hit a three, but Andy Soma (Traverse City, Mich.) answered right back with a three of his own. Both teams continued to respond to one another with neither side giving an inch, but in the end, the clock would become the enemy for Michigan Tech as Devin Womack (Ypsilanti, Mich.) and Xander Okerlund (Empire, Mich.) iced the game away at the free throw line for the 73-63 victory.

Bassett led the way offensively with a 17-point, ten-rebound double-double. Ebeling finished with 13 points, and David Wren (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was able to contribute 12 points of his own off the bench. Meanwhile, Robinson led all players in assists with three.

The Lakers will look to continue their winning ways when they travel to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats on Sunday, Dec. 11 with tipoff scheduled for 3 p.m.
