ASHLAND STORYLINES

The Warriors have won five straight home openers since dropping a 21-14 decision to Michigan Tech on Sept. 1, 2007.  WSU opened the 2012 season with a 35-31 victory over Lake Erie.  Overall, WSU went 3-2 at home during the 2012 campaign.  Wayne State is 12-5 at home in the past three seasons.

CARSON-NEWMAN RECAP
Wayne State fell in its season-opener on Thursday, Sept. 5, as the Warriors dropped a 55-28 contest at #17 Carson-Newman.

WSU put together an 11-play, 65-yard drive midway through the second stanza to pull within 21-14 as Jay Hayes hauled in a six-yard scoring toss from Carl Roscoe.  The Warriors converted three third-down plays on the scoring drive -- Michael Johnson had a 13-yard catch on a third-and-seven; Hayes grabbed a 32-yard strike on third-and-nine; then the scoring play to Hayes.

Following an exchange of fumbles and punts in the third quarter after the Eagles scored to start the half, Wayne State answered with a five-play, 54-yard drive culminating in a 41-yard TD pass from Sean Guinane to Dominique Maybanks on the play following an eight-yard reception by Trent Brodbeck on a fourth-and-five.

After the Warrior defense stopped the hosts on a fourth-and-one, the WSU offense drove 63 yards in 10 plays with Val Showers notching his first Wayne State touchdown with a six-yard catch on a fourth-and-four play.
