Baseball Wins Twice Over Findlay

The Warriors have won 12 of their last 13 games.

DETROIT -- The first-place Wayne State University baseball program (26-9) took a quick break from the league slate to host Findlay (14-22) for two games on Tuesday at Harwell Field.  The Warriors won game one 11-0 and took game two 14-8.

GAME ONE (W, 11-0)
HOW IT HAPPENED
WSU struck first with four runs on six hits in the bottom of the third inning.  Noah Miller (Macomb, Mich. / University Liggett) started the scoring with an RBI double into left field.  CJ Maury (Brampton, Ont.) singled home a run before an RBI single from Jacob Finkbeiner (Saline, Mich.) made it 3-0.  Nate Roede (Byron Center, Mich.) finished the scoring with an RBI single into center field.

The Green & Gold added two more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning.  Miller collected another RBI with his second double of the game.  A wild pitch allowed Miller to come around to score, pushing the home advantage to 6-0.

Brett Zimmerman (Frankfort, Mich.) drove in a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, giving WSU an 8-0 lead.

A one-out triple from Chris Tanderys (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) in the bottom of the sixth inning plated two runs before Roede added another tally with an RBI single.

AT THE PLATE
Roede finished 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Miller and Maury both had two hits.

ON THE MOUND
Brennan Cox (Taylor, Mich. / Riverview Gabriel Richard) (2-2) started and did not allow a run in four innings, while striking out five batters.

David Thurman (Southfield, Mich. / Detroit Edison) worked the final three innings to collect his first save of the season.

GAME TWO (W, 14-8)
HOW IT HAPPENED

Ryan O'Malley hit a two-out home run in the top of the first inning to put the Oilers out in front 1-0.  

WSU answered with four runs in the bottom of the first inning on three hits and three walks.  Tanderys drew a bases-loaded walk before a sacrifice fly by Finkbeiner made it 2-1.  Ryne Travis (Lockport, Ill. / Lockport Twp.) slapped a single into left field to bring home two runs and give Wayne State a 4-1 lead.

Five hits and a walk allowed five runs to score in the bottom of the second inning for the Warriors.  Michael MacLean (Bloomfield Hills, Mich. / Country Day / The Lawrenceville School) took the team lead in home runs with a two-run shot down the right field line.  Tanderys scampered home on a wild pitch and a triple from Roede brought home another run.  Roede also crossed home plate on a wild pitch, making it 9-1.

Findlay responded with four runs on one hit and an error in the the top of the third inning.  Two UF errors in the bottom of the third allowed WSU to add a run and make it 10-5.

A wild pitch after a walk and a ground out allowed the Oilers to score their sixth run of the contest.

Wayne State used two hits and two errors in the bottom of the fourth inning to score four times and take a 14-6 lead.  Hunter DeLanoy (Hartland, Mich.) highlighted the scoring with a two-run single into center field.

The visitors scored a run in the fifth and another in the sixth inning.

AT THE PLATE
Miller and Tanderys both posted two-hit games, while DeLanoy, MacLean and Travis drove in two runs each.


ON THE MOUND
Griffin Kilander (Livonia, Mich. / Stevenson) (1-0) started and allowed five runs (three earned) in three innings.  Jacob Raymond (Shelby Twp., Mich. / Utica Eisenhower) was the first arm out of the bullpen and allowed a run in his inning of relief.

Joey Muzljakovich (Mayfield, Mich. / Traverse City St. Francis) gave up a run and struck out two batters in inning of work before Ryan Szlachcic (Jenison, Mich. / Hudsonville) allowed a run in the sixth.


Jimmy Love (Birmingham, Mich. / Seaholm) finished the game on the mound for the Green & Gold and worked around two walks to not allow a run in the seventh inning.

UP NEXT
The Warriors will hit the road for the first time since early April for four games at Northwood starting on Friday at 3:00 p.m.
