Men's Tennis Tallies 6-1 Victory at Grand Valley State

The No. 24 Warriors upended the No. 36 Lakers.

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The No. 24 Wayne State University men's tennis squad (14-3 overall, 4-0 GLIAC) claimed a 6-1 win at 36th-ranked Grand Valley State (14-6 overall, 4-2 GLIAC) on Saturday evening.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) were the first to finish after notching a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles vs. Jack Geissler and Martin Matov.

At No. 1 doubles, seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) were next off the courts with a 6-2 win over Sebastien Lescoulie and DJ Colantone.

At No. 3 doubles, redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) fell in a tiebreaker (7-6(5)) to Jack Dausman and Nicholas Urban.

SINGLES RESULTS
Renaudie was first to finish his No. 2 singles match, winning versus Geissler  (6-4, 6-2).

Freshman Donovan Nguyen (Troy, Mich. / Utica) tallied a win against Eric Zwemer at No. 6 singles (6-2, 6-3).

At No. 5 singles, freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) notched a victory over Urban (6-4, 6-4).

Karcz won his No. 1 singles match in a super tiebreaker vs. Lescoulie (6-3, 3-6, 10-8).

Vane tallied the final singles point at the third flight in a super tiebreaker against Dausman (6-3, 4-6, 10-6).

Mertz fell in a super tiebreaker in his No. 4 singles match versus Matov (7-6(1), 5-7, 7-10).

WSU will travel to Ferris State on Sunday, April 7, for a 10:00 a.m. GLIAC matchup.
