Ferris State Too Much for Men's Basketball on the Road

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Wayne State University men's basketball program (2-7, 1-5 GLIAC) lost 104-73 at Ferris State (11-3, 6-0 GLIAC) on Monday night in a makeup game from Thursday's postponement.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Four straight points by Ray Williams, Jr. (Detroit, Mich. / Edison Public School Academy) gave WSU a 9-8 lead at the 16-minute mark.  A running jumper by Darian Owens-White (Detroit, Mich. / River Rouge) tied the game at 11-11 with 15:23 to play in the opening stanza.  A long-ranger shot by Brailen Neely (Detroit, Mich. / Western International) pushed the Warriors ahead 14-13 at the 14:49 mark.  The fast-paced affair continued and a two-pointer by Owens-White kept the Green & Gold on top 21-20 with 11:23 remaining before halftime.  Neely tied the game at 23-23 at the 10:34 mark with a jumper.

Nate Talbot (Lake Orion, Mich.) made one of two free throws gave the visitors a 25-23 advantage with 9:08 left before halftime.  A dunk by Tyree Martin (Chicago, Ill. / Curie) kept WSU close, 29-27, at the 8:06 mark but a 6-0 run by the Bulldogs pushed the home team in front 35-27.  Ferris State led 37-30 with 4:25 left before halftime.  The momentum stayed with FSU and the home margin grew to 47-34 with just under two minutes to play.  At the break, WSU trailed 51-36.  Ferris State connected on eight three-pointers in the first half.

The Bulldogs continued to execute their offense efficiently and led 58-38 with 17:35 left in the game.  Neely knocked in a three-pointer to make it 68-49 at the 12:20 mark.  Two points from Kylin Grant (Detroit, Mich. / Renaissance) cut the FSU advantage to 18, 71-53, with 10:23 remaining.  The deficit stayed around 20 and WSU trailed 81-64 at the 5:23 mark.  The final score would be 104-73.

LEADING THE WARRIORS
Neely scored a game-high 24 points, while Owens-White had 13 and Grant finished with 10.  Neely also dished out a game-best seven assists.

LEADING THE BULLDOGS
Six players scored at least 10 points for Ferris State led by Walt Kelser and Dorian Aluyi with 15 points.

ONE BIG THING
The Bulldogs went 15-of-29 from behind the arc, while WSU was just 4-of-17 on its three-point attempts.

Wayne State hosts Michigan Tech on Thursday night inside the Wayne State Fieldhouse with tip-off set for 7:30 PM.  A reminder, fans are not permitted at WSU events through the end of January.
