Hannah Moore and Emily Norscia combined for 34 of WSU's 53 kills on Tuesday.

DETROIT -- The Wayne State University volleyball team (11-15, 6-8 GLIAC) continues to show signs of building a consistent winner and battled Saginaw Valley State (20-5, 10-4 GLIAC) to the wire on Tuesday night inside the Matthaei. WSU won the opening set 25-21 while SVSU rallied to win three straight by scores of 25-18, 25-19 and 25-23.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cardinals led the first set 9-4 after a 4-0 run but the Warriors responded and tied the set at 12-12 on an SVSU attack error. Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) gave WSU its first lead of the set (13-12) with a kill. An ace from Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central) extended the home lead to 16-14 and forced an SVSU timeout. After a Grace Frazee (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Grand Rapids Christian) kill, the Cards would tie the set at 17-17 with a 3-0 spurt. However, the Green & Gold would end the set on an 8-4 run including three kills from Norscia to win the set 25-21.

- Following another kill from Norscia, WSU led the second set 9-7. However, a 6-0 run by the visitors gave SVSU a 14-9 advantage. Wayne State trimmed the deficit to 22-17 after a Norscia kill and an SVSU attack error but the Cardinals would tie the match at one win apiece with a 25-18 set-two victory.

- The Cardinals opened the third set on a 5-2 run before WSU took a 7-6 lead after three kills from Moore and one from Frazee. Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) tied the set at 11-11 before SVSU created some breathing room with a 4-1 run to take a 15-12 lead and force a WSU timeout. The Cardinals pulled away and led 21-15 and eventually won the set 25-19.

- SVSU led 7-3 to begin the fourth set. WSU stormed back to take a 10-8 lead after four consecutive Cardinals' attack errors. Later in the set, the Cards went on a 5-0 run to regain the lead at 19-15. Three kills from Norscia cut SVSU's lead to 20-18 and WSU would pull within one at 24-23 after a kill from Moore. A kill from SVSU sealed the 25-24 set-four victory and gave the Cardinals their fourth straight win.
