DETROIT – The Wayne State University women's basketball squad (2-0 Overall, 2-0 GLIAC) completed its series sweep over visiting Lake Superior State University (0-1 Overall, 0-1 GLIAC) Tuesday afternoon with a 79-61 victory at the Matthaei.

FIRST HALF RECAP
In a script very similar to the day before, it was a close first quarter with four ties and neither team having a lead greater than three until junior Sam Cherney (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) scored in the final 35 seconds of the opening stanza to give WSU a 21-16 lead after 10 minutes.

Approaching the mid-point of the second quarter, the Lakers trailed by one point (25-24) following a triple by Abbey Krugh.  The margin would be one point four more times prior to intermission with Wayne State holding a 33-32 advantage at halftime after being outscored 16-12 in the second quarter.

SECOND HALF RECAP
Yesterday's contest was tied at halftime before WSU exploded for a 25-4 scoring advantage in the third period.  In today's game, the Warriors outscored Lake Superior State 26-14 in the third quarter.

Two Cherney buckets sandwiched around a Grace George (DeWitt, Mich.) field goal to start the second half extended WSU's lead to seven.

Cherney (8 points) and George (4 points) combined to score Wayne State's first 12 points of third quarter before five consecutive points by sophomore guard Becca Fugate (Holly, Mich.) in less than 30 seconds pushed the lead to 11 at 50-39 just past the mid-point of the stanza.

Of the Warriors 26 points in the third period, Cherney and George each had eight, Fugate contributed seven and sophomore Kate McArthur (Warren, Mich. / Cousino) added a triple.

George added to WSU's margin with two buckets in the opening 90 seconds of the fourth period extending the lead to 17 (63-46).

Wayne State's lead was never less than 15 the rest of the way.
