Men's Tennis Upended 6-1 at #6-Saint Leo

The Warriors claimed the doubles point.

SAINT LEO, Fla. -- The Wayne State University men's tennis squad (7-2 overall) fell 6-1 at sixth-ranked Saint Leo (5-3 overall) on Thursday afternoon.

DOUBLES RESULTS
Seniors Griffin Mertz (Farmington Hills, Mich. / North Farmington) and Taylor Vane (Southampton, England) won 6-2 at the first flight against Aurel Ciocanu and Willem van den Akker.

At No. 2 doubles, sophomore Niklas Karcz (Bottrop, Germany) and junior Pierre Renaudie (Sathonay-Camp, France) claimed a 6-3 victory versus Bruno Faletto and Leonardo Vega.

At the third flight, redshirt junior Derek Sammons (Coldwater, Mich.) and freshman David Solar (Prague, Czech Republic) lost 6-4 to Ghali Mensour and David Perez.

SINGLES RESULTS
At No. 1 singles, Karcz fell to Faletto (6-2, 6-1).

Renaudie dropped to Mensour in No. 2 singles after playing a third set (4-6, 6-4, 6-4).

Mertz lost his No. 3 singles match to Ciocanu (6-2, 6-4).

At No. 4 singles, Vane lost to Noel Kunz (6-4, 6-4).

Freshman Max Rink (Wetzlar, Germany) was upended by van den Akker at No. 5 singles (6-3, 6-4).

Sammons lost his No. 6 singles match against Perez (6-3, 6-2).

UP NEXT
WSU will travel to Winter Park, Fla., for an 11:00 AM match against Rollins on Saturday, March 9.
