DETROIT – In
Kelsey Bonewits' (Griffith, Ind.) last match as a Warrior, the Wayne State University volleyball team (12-18, 7-11 GLIAC) fell on Senior Day to GLIAC foe Grand Valley State (19-10, 13-5 GLIAC) in four hard fought sets: 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 18-25. The loss wraps up head coach
Tim Koth's second-year campaign with a 12-18 mark overall – improving from 9-16 a season ago. The Warriors finish 7-11 in the conference, one game back of tenth place in the GLIAC.
HOW IT HAPPENED-The Lakers jumped out to a 14-9 opening-set lead and force Wayne State into an early timeout. GVSU would take their largest lead of the set, 17-10, before the Warriors offense would surge for eight of the next 11 points – cutting the deficit to two, 20-18. The Warriors trimmed the deficit to one on four occasions down the stretch but the Lakers were able to hold on for the 25-23 victory.

Mikayla Shell (Croswell, Mich. / Croswell-Lexington) staked WSU to a 3-1 lead to begin the second set with a kill.
Hailey Richardson (New Boston, Mich. / Huron) tied the set at 11-11 with a service ace. Following a WSU service error GVSU extended its lead to 16-13. The Green & Gold won the next three points to tie the set before falling behind 21-18 while the Lakers took a 2-0 match advantage with a 25-20 win.

Hannah Moore (Louisville, Ky. / Assumption) capped a 4-0 run to begin the third set with a kill. GVSU stormed back and took an 8-5 lead following a 7-0 run. Shell put WSU back on top, 11-10, with a kill. The Warriors seized the momentum and led 18-12 after a kill from Michelle Asiedu (Holland, Ohio / Springfield
). Ellie Rodriguez (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Catholic Central
) delivered an ace to extend the lead to 23-16. WSY would win the set and avoid the sweep on a kill from Brittany Guldan (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Central).- WSU seemed to have used all of its energy in the third set as GVSU sprinted out to a 10-2 lead in the fourth set. The deficit reached 10 at 17-7 following a WSU attack error. The Warriors fought back and trailed 24-18 after a kill from
Emily Norscia (Livonia, Mich. / Livonia Churchill) and a GVSU attack error but the Lakers were able to secure the victory on a kill from Kaleigh Lound.
LEADING THE WARRIORS- Norscia led the green and gold with 19 kills on a .405 hitting percentage.
- Moore completed her dominate sophomore year with 11 kills and 16 digs. She finishes the season with nine double-doubles and double-digit kills in 23 of 30 matches.
- Guldan wrapped up her 2015-16 year collecting 43 assists in four sets.
FAREWELL TO BONEWITS- Bonewits leaves the Warriors as a two-time team captain, four-year letterwinner, and a 2013 GLIAC All-Academic Team selection.
