Cardinals Fall to Rangers in Regular Season Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Saginaw Valley State University men's basketball team dropped a 73-65 decision to Parkside to conclude the 2022-23 regular season.

The Cardinals (14-14, 9-9 GLIAC) were led by Chansey Willis Jr. with 16 points and six assists. Tre Garrett finished with 14 points and six rebounds while Freddie McIntosh scored 10 points in the losing effort.

The first half was a tightly fought affair with nine lead changes and four ties in the first 20 minutes. The Rangers used a 7-0 run to build a 37-32 lead with 4:52 remaining. The deficit remained within two possessions for the remainder of the half. McIntosh ended the scoring for the half to cut the gap to 42-39 as the teams entered the locker room at the break.

The second half remained just as competitive as the first with four lead changes and three additional ties, the final of which was a deadlock at 57 points with 8:09 left on the clock. A 6-0 run by Parkside flipped the momentum in the home team's favor and the advantage stayed on the home side for the remainder of the evening.

The SVSU men's basketball team has clinched a spot in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) tournament. The Cardinals will await the official announcement of the pairings from the league office.
