2019 Purdue Northwest Preview

The Purdue University Northwest men’s soccer team looks to bounce back this season after having an early Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Tournament exit last season.

PNW saw their best finish in the GLIAC Standings as the team finished in third place and hosted a conference tournament match for the first time in school history and is looking to build off that success.

The team brings back their top two scorers from a season ago in Isaiah Nieves (Lyons Township, Ill./Lyons Township) and Enrique Serna (Majadahonda, Spain). Nieves scored six goals and assisted in four others in 14 matches played for the Pride while Serna scored five goals and assisted another one in all 17 matches.

The top two defenders for the Pride return for their senior season. Grant Ugarte (Oak Lawn, Ill./Oak Lawn) and Michael Brownsea (Albury, Australia) started in all 17 matches for PNW and logged over 1200 minutes allowed only 1.37 goals per contest.

The 2019 campaign begins Thursday, Sept. 5, as the Pride travel to Romeoville, Ill., to take on Lewis University starting at 7:30 p.m. CT.

GLIAC season begins Friday, Sept. 20, as the Pride travel to Northern Michigan to take on the Wildcats.

PNW has been fully accepted as a member of NCAA Division II and is eligible for the NCAA Tournament.
