DETROIT - Wayne State University senior second baseman Andrew Ciennik (Waterford, Mich./Mott) was selected to the 2012 Capital One Academic All-America Division II First Team in a vote by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A biological sciences major with a 3.75 grade point average,
Ciennik was a four-year starter for Wayne State and helped the
Warriors reach the NCAA Midwest Regional each of the last three
seasons.
Ciennik is the first Wayne State baseball student-athlete to
receive CoSIDA Academic All-America accolades since Matt Essian was
a First Team selection in 1995.
A two-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
selection in his career, Ciennik was WSU's second-leading hitter
with a .350 average in 2012. He started all 55 games and
totaled 62 hits, 32 runs scored, 26 RBI and 23 walks.
He ended his collegiate career as Wayne State's all-time leader in
sacrifice bunts (28), sacrifice flies (16) and fielding assists
(482). Ciennik also ranks second in career games played (204)
and sixth in hits (199).
