2017 All-GLIAC Baseball Teams & Postseason Awards Announced

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) announced its 2017 All-GLIAC Baseball Teams and Postseason Awards in conjunction with the Conference's annual Baseball Tournament at the Athletes in Action Sports Complex in Xenia, Ohio. The awards were voted on by the conference baseball coaches and include the third annual recipient of the Troy Berry Award.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR: Justin Childers - Ohio Dominican

Ohio Dominican junior first baseman Justin Childers had a prolific season at the plate and was rewarded by earning the 2017 GLIAC Baseball Player of the Year award. Childers batted .451 with 14 home runs, 17 doubles, five triples, 60 RBIs, 62 runs scored and 18 stolen bases while slugging .846 with a .526 on-base percentage. He leads the nation in slugging percentage and ranks second in batting average, 12th in OBP and 13th in runs scored. Childers also ranks in the top 25 nationally in total bases (seventh), hits (17th), RBIs (19th) and triples (24th).  His batting average is tied for the fourth-best mark in GLIAC single season history and his home run total is in the top-10 as well. Childers closed the season with a 14 game hitting streak and had two or more hits in 12 of those games, hitting .609 with six homers, 25 RBIs and 14 walks in that stretch. On the season, he had 28 multi-hit games and 19 multi-RBI games, earned two GLIAC Player of the Week awards, and was also named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Tyler Jandron - Northwood

Northwood junior Tyler Jandron is the first player in program history to earn Pitcher of the Year honors. He finished the year earning the GLIAC pitching "triple crown," leading the conference in wins (10), ERA (2.61) and strikeouts (80). He also tossed a GLIAC-best two shutouts, both of which came in 1-0 conference victories. Jandron already has three more wins and 10 more strikeouts this season than any other pitcher in program history.

FRESHMAN PLAYER OF THE YEAR: David Vinsky - Northwood

Northwood freshman David Vinsky became one of the top offensive performers in the GLIAC in his first season at Northwood. He finished the regular season with a .444 batting average to go along with a .654 slugging percentage. Vinsky has 91 hits on the year, 12 more than any other player in the GLIAC. His 23 doubles on the season currently lead the GLIAC and rank second in all of Division II. He is the second player in Northwood history to earn GLIAC Freshman of the Year honors, joining Matt Shields (2005).

FRESHMAN PITCHER OF THE YEAR: Michael Boswell - Tiffin

Tiffin University right-hander Michael Boswell finished his rookie campaign with five wins in 11 appearances, helping the Dragons post their best winning percentage in program history. Boswell finished second on the team in innings and wins, and averaged 8.02 strikeouts per nine innings. Michael surrendered only 14 bases on balls in 46 innings pitched, and averaged the second most innings pitched per appearances. Boswell's five wins are tied for second most in a single season since Tiffin has been competing at the NCAA Division II level.

COACH OF THE YEAR: Jordan Bischel - Northwood
Jordan Bischel is the first person in Northwood history to earn GLIAC Baseball Coach of the Year honors. He has led Northwood to a remarkable turnaround in just three seasons at the helm. Northwood finished the regular season with 39 wins overall, nine more than any other season in program history. The Timberwolves' 26 conference victories this year are six more than any other season in school history. Northwood's .813 GLIAC win percentage is the highest for any team in the conference since 2011. With post-season play still upcoming, the team's 39 victories this year are the most for a GLIAC team since 2014.

TROY BERRY AWARD: Findlay's Logan Harrah was awarded the third annual Troy Berry Award for his character, leadership and integrity. The award is presented annually to the GLIAC baseball player who best combines outstanding character and leadership on the field, in the classroom and in the community. The honor is named after former Findlay head baseball coach Troy Berry.
