Davenport's Harvey and Ashland's Slavik claim baseball player of the week honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following Week 8 of the 2019 season. Davenport junior Travis Harvey earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Ashland senior Chris Slavik captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Travis Harvey - Davenport

Junior left fielder Travis Harvey (Livonia, Mich.) went 10-for-15 in four games against Grand Valley State and became the first Panther to ever hit for the cycle, going 5-for-5 with two singles, a double, a triple and a home run. He drove in four runs in the 13-8 win and scored twice. He then came up big in Game 2 on Saturday with a grand slam that put the game away in the seventh inning. He drove in 10 runs during the series and slugged 1.267 with a .722 on-base percentage. He batted .500 for the week, which included two losses at Ashland on April 2. Defensively he totaled 10 putouts and one error.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Chris Slavik - Ashland

Senior reliever Chris Slavik (Powell, Ohio) appeared in three games last week and went 2-0 with a save. He tossed five hitless innings last weel and has not allowed a hit in his last seven innings overall on the mound. The senior right-hander earned the win on both ends of Tuesday's doubleheader sweep of Davenport, striking out three of his five batters in Game 1. He also recorded the last three outs of Game 2 to earn the victory. Slavik tossed 2 1/3 innings of hitless relief to pick up his third save of the season during Friday's 4-1 win over Saginaw Valley. He currently leads the GLIAC in wins (7) and is tied for second in saves (3). Slavik is 7-0 on the season with a 2.52 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 25 innings pitched.
