Davenport sweeps baseball player of the week awards

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced weekly baseball awards following Week 11 of the 2019 season. Davenport junior Dylan Watson earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while senior teammate Evan Marquardt captured Pitcher of the Week accolades for the second time this season.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Dylan Watson - Davenport

Junior designated hitter Dylan Watson (Warren, Mich.) had his best week of the season at the plate as Davenport went 4-2 including three wins against No. 16 Wayne State. He batted .600 with 12 hits in 20 at-bats and scored eight runs. He collected a season-high six RBI, going 4-for-6 with a home run at Central Michigan on Tuesday. He also hit a solo home run against Calvin on Wednesday. He went 7-for-11 against the Warriors including 3-for-3 in Sunday's 3-0 win.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Evan Marquardt - Davenport

Senior Evan Marquardt (Midland, Mich.) saved his best performance for the home finale against No. 16 Wayne State on Sunday. He tossed 7.1 scoreless innings in a 3-0 win over the Warriors. It was the first time WSU has been blanked this season (42 games). He got out of trouble in the first as the Warriors loaded the bases with one out, but got a strikeout and flyout to end the threat. He walked two and struck out eight in a 111-pitch outing. He also tossed two innings at Central Michigan earlier in the week with a pair of strikeouts.
