GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced it's first weekly baseball awards of the 2021 Baseball season. Ashland senior third baseman Garett Robberts earned GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while Northwood freshman pitcher Derek Clark captured Pitcher of the Week accolades.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Garett Robberts - Ashland
Robberts led the Ashland lineup last week, batting .500 (9-for-18) with a home run, three doubles and six RBI. He also stole two bases, reached base at a .526 clip and slugged .833. He was also perfect on 27 fielding chances at first base and third base. Robberts had multiple hits in all four games last week. He had two doubles and three RBI in a season-opening 11-8 win over Cedarville. In the weekend finale, a 6-1 defeat to Kentucky Wesleyan, Robberts had three hits, including a solo home run. He was also off to a strong start last season before the season was stopped, hitting .324 with six RBI in 11 games.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Derek Clark - Northwood
Derek Clark went 2-0 with a 1.38 ERA in his first two career starts at Northwood. His first career start was a memorable one, tossing eight no-hit innings in a 13-0 win over Indianapolis. He walked two and struck out six in the win. Clark then earned the win in a 12-6 victory over Tiffin, allowing two earned runs in five innings of work while striking out eight. In his two starts, he allowed three hits while striking out 14 in 13 innings of work.
