GVSU Sweeps Baseball Weekly Honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its third weekly baseball awards of the 2021 Baseball season. Grand Valley St. swept the weekly honors with senior Ryan Blake-Jones earning GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week honors, while freshman teammate Nick Rutkowski was awarded Pitcher of the Week accolades.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Ryan Blake-Jones, Grand Valley St.

 Grand Valley State senior Ryan Blake-Jones led the Laker offense in a four-game sweep of Purdue Northwest last weekend. The Ann Arbor, Mich. native went 7-for-16 with a homerun, three doubles, and eight RBI to increase his batting average on the season to .304. Blake-Jones has tallied four multi-hit games this year including three on the weekend to help the Lakers sit atop the GLIAC standings at 4-0.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Nick Rutkowski,  Grand Valley St. 

Grand Valley State freshman Nick Rutkowski threw a gem in game one of the series at Purdue Northwest to set the tone for the weekend. The Sterling Heights, Mich. native tossed a complete game (9 innings), allowing one run on four hits, while striking out five, in a 7-1 win over the Pride. Rutkowski boasts a 2.10 ERA on the season with three quality starts.
