JACKSON, Miss. – It was a milestone night as Millsaps baseball head coach Jim Page recorded his 800th career victory as the Majors took down Eureka, 14-0 at Twenty Field on Saturday.
Page, currently in his 34th season at Millsaps, improved his record to 800-536-3. The Majors tallied 17 hits and improved to 9-3 on the season.
Case Page had a great game going 2-for-2, with two runs, two RBIs and two walks. Mark Petkovsek Jr. finished 2-for-4 with three RBIs, while Austin Arceneaux finished 3-for-4 with two RBIs.
Sophomore Chambers McGilberry allowed two hits, three walks and zero runs while striking out three batters in 5.0 IP. Senior Jackson Russo struck out two Red Devils in 3.0 IP.
McGilberry would strike out the first batter he faced to set the tone for the Majors.
The Majors would produce back-to-back doubles to open the game on offense. Bradley Pelle would score Chris Hart to put Millsaps ahead 1-0. Petkovsek would then bring home Pelle with a passed ball and sacrifice fly to close the first inning up 2-0.
Case Page would then power a 2RBI double to center field to score Avery Brock and Little in the third inning. Arceneaux would follow with a double of his own to push the Major advantage to 5-0.
Senior Chris Hart would lead off the fourth inning with his second homer of the season. The Majors would extend their lead to 7-0 when Pelle scored on a throwing error.
Posting five quality innings, McGilberry would strike out the last batter he'd face to end the fifth.
The Majors would open the sixth with the bases loaded and no outs. Arceneaux would find a hole a put Millsaps up 8-0. Sam Pitre would then score on a passed ball followed by Page scoring on a wild pitch to make it 10-0.
Pelle would tally the 11th run with a single to right field and then Petkovsek would bring home two teammates with a single up the middle. The first eight batters would reach safely in the inning.
Jackson Ware would make it a 14-0 game in the seventh when he found chalk down the left field line, scoring Hart from first.
Millsaps is scheduled to face MUW on Sunday at 1:30 p.m., weather permitting. Live video and live stats will be available on gomajors.com.
