NU's Showers and Clark earn GLIAC baseball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its 10th weekly baseball awards of the 2022 baseball season. Northwood swept the awards with junior catcher Khale Showers receiving GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week recognition and sophomore southpaw Derek Clark earning pitcher of the week honors.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Khale Showers, Northwood

Khale Showers (Belmont, Mich.) had a huge week at the plate for Northwood, batting .579 with three home runs, 10 RBIs and 10 runs scored in five games. He had at least two hits and two runs scored in all five games and finished the week with a .591 on-base percentage and a 1.158 slugging percentage. Showers hit a home run in three of the four games against Wayne State and drove in 10 runs in four games against the Warriors

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Derek Clark, Northwood

Derek Clark (Petersburg, Mich.) tossed a nine-inning complete game in Northwood's 8-1 win over Wayne State, who entered the weekend leading the GLIAC. Clark allowed one unearned run in the game and just three hits. He struck out 12 while walking one in nine innings. He now has six complete games on the season, twice as many as any other pitcher in the GLIAC.
