WSU's Tanderys and SVSU's McLaren receive weekly GLIAC baseball honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its second weekly baseball awards of the 2023 baseball season. Wayne State graduate student Chris Tanderys was honored as GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week, while Saginaw Valley State sophomore Tyler McLaren received pitcher of the week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chris Tanderys, Wayne State

Chris Tanderys was named GLIAC Player of the Week for the second time in his career on Monday. Tanderys hit .500 (5-for-10) in Wayne State's first three games of the season while leading the Warriors to a series win over Hillsdale in Tennessee. The Livonia, Mich. native finished with two runs scored, a double, three RBI, two walks, and only one strikeout.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Tyler McLaren, Saginaw Valley State

Saginaw Valley State University starting pitcher Tyler McLaren set the stage for the Cardinals in their first game on Friday against Maryville University. He pitched five innings striking out seven batters and only allowed one run. McLaren had a 1.60 WHIP through those five innings. The Cardinals went on to win 7-2 on the back of McLaren's performance.
