WSU's Ramirez and GVSU's Rutkowksi receive GLIAC baseball weekly honors

GLIAC -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its eighth weekly baseball awards of the 2023 baseball season. Wayne State redshirt senior outfielder Rudy Ramirez was named GLIAC Baseball Player of the Week while Grand Valley State junior right-hander Nick Rutkowski received pitcher of the week recognition.


PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rudy Ramirez, Wayne State

Outfielder, Rudy Ramirez, was named GLIAC Player of the Week for the first time in his career on Monday. The honor comes after Ramirez hit .542 (13-for-24) in six games with 14 runs scored, one double, two triples, 14 RBI, five walks, three stolen bases, and a 1.475 OPS. Half of those 14 RBI came in game two of the doubleheader at PNW on Friday when Ramirez hit a pair of bases-loaded triples as well as an RBI double.

PITCHER OF THE WEEK: Nick Rutkowski, Grand Valley State

Nick Rutkowski (Sterling Heights, Mich.) has been named GLIAC Pitcher of the Week for the second time this season. Rutkowski tossed his fourth complete game this season in a 3-1 win at Parkside on Friday tossing seven innings allowing no earned runs off two hits with six strikeouts. The junior improved to 6-1 on the season having posted six wins in his last six consecutive starts. The Lakers sit in second place in the GLIAC and will host Wayne State in a four-game series this upcoming weekend beginning on Friday.
