Big Rapids, Mich. - Ferris State University will kick off its 2011 football season with a bang as the Bulldogs host Hillsdale for "Community Day" on Friday, Sept. 2, at Top Taggart Field.
Kickoff for the non-league evening contest is set for 7:30 p.m. (ET) and a number of special activities are slated in conjunction with the holiday weekend festivities. Lots will open for tailgating at 5 p.m. (ET) once on-campus afternoon classes have concluded.
The first 100 students will receive a free koozie.
Free schedule magnets will also be given to the first 1,000 spectators at the contest compliments of Dental Health Care Associates. Numerous local businesses will have tables inside the stadium entrance and will be handing out coupons to fans.
A number of activities will also be offered for youth as three inflatables will be located in the north endzone of Top Taggart Field. Kids will also have access to the turf practice field throughout the game in the northeast corner of the stadium.
Halftime events will include a performance by the Reed City High School Marching Band. Students will also have an opportunity to win prizes in Minute To Win It contests throughout the game.
Ferris State kicks off its 103rd season of varsity competition by hosting Hillsdale in the "Community Day" game, which will be played as a non-league encounter since the two teams were not scheduled to play each other in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) action this campaign. It marks the first of six Bulldog football home contests in 2011.
FSU and Hillsdale are traditional rivals have met every year since 1972 with the two teams having split the last 10 matchups. The Chargers are nationally-ranked in the preseason polls and guided by former Ferris State head coach Keith Otterbein.
Season tickets for all home contests are now on sale and can be purchased by calling the FSU Athletics Ticket Office at (231) 591-2888. An individual season ticket package is only $35 or fans can purchase a Division II Pass for Two, which allows for admission for two people to all home sports except hockey at a cost of only $100.
Single-game tickets for football may also be purchased by calling the ticket office or thru Star Tickets with availability online, by phone, at the Rankin Center on the FSU campus or at the customer service desk at all West Michigan Meijer stores.
Adult general admission tickets are only $7 while seniors (ages 65-plus), FSU Faculty/Staff and students in grades K-12 are just $5 each. Ferris State students are admitted free with a valid student ID card.
