Saginaw Valley State's Jeff Janis Named GLIAC Football "Offensive Player of the Week"

BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior wideout Jeff Janis (Tawas, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after shattering the GLIAC record for receiving yards in a single game when he pulled down 12 catches for 300 yards and a touchdown in SVSU's 51-24 win at Lake Erie College last Saturday.  Ferris State University senior linebacker Tayo Moss (South Rockwood, Mich./Monroe St. Mary’s C.C.) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Grand Valley State University junior defensive back/ returner Reggie Williams (Lansing, Mich./Everett) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

GLIAC Football Offensive Player of the Week:
Jeff Janis  - Saginaw Valley State (JR, WR, 6-3, 205, Tawas, Mich.)   

Junior wideout Jeff Janis had a record breaking game against Lake Erie College as he hauled in 12 catches for a GLIAC and school record 300 yards and touchdown in the Cardinals’ 51-24 win.  Janis had four catches of 30 yards or more (36, 45, 52 and 73) as he helped quarterback Jonathon Jennings also break the school record for passing yards in a game with 511.  The previous SVSU pass and receiving yard marks were set in 2003 by former Cardinal standouts Mark Radlinski (431 yards passing) and Glenn Martinez (234 yards receiving) against Ferris State.

GLIAC Football Defensive Player of the Week:
Tayo Moss - Ferris State (SR, LB, 6-0, 224, South Rockwood, Mich./Monroe St. Mary’s C.C.)

Ferris State senior linebacker Tayo Moss had a pair of game-changing plays to key the Bulldogs’ 20-14  home win over Walsh University on  Saturday night.  With the Bulldogs trailing 7-6 early in the fourth quarter and Walsh inside the FSU redzone, Moss scooped up a fumble and raced 82 yards to the endzone to give Ferris State the lead.  On the following offensive play, Moss forced a Walsh fumble that was recovered by the Bulldogs at the Cavaliers’ 34-yard line that led to another score.  He tallied a game-high 13 tackles (five solo), to go with a tackle for loss, forced fumble and the fumble recovery return.

GLIAC Football Special Teams Player of the Week:
Reggie Williams - Grand Valley State (JR, DB/PR, 5-9, 178, Lansing, Mich./Everett)  

Grand Valley State junior cornerback Reggie Williams returned  two kickoffs for 114 yards, one punt 16 yards,  an interception seven yards and caused a fumble in the Lakers 46-41 victory over Ohio Dominican. Williams became the first player in GVSU football history  to  return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown in the same season when he returned a third quarter kickoff 83 yards for a score. Williams also picked off a pass that led to a touchdown and recorded six tackles.
