BAY CITY, Mich. - Grand Valley State University sophomore quarterback Isiah Grimes (South Haven, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" after leading the Lakers to a 51-43 road win at Michigan Technological University last Saturday. Malone University senior defensive back Logan Francis (Sidney, Ohio) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Michigan Technological University senior running back/returner Akeem Cason (Benton Harbor, Mich.) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

Isiah Grimes - Grand Valley State (SO, QB, 6-6, 240, South
Haven, Mich.)
Grand Valley State sophomore quarterback Isiah Grimes completed 17-of-27 passes for 411 yards and four TDs in the Lakers 51-43 road victory over #22 Michigan Tech. Grimes averaged an incredible 24.2 yards per completion as 10 of his 17 completions covered more than 20 yards. Grimes guided the Laker off to a season-high 636 yards and his 411 passing yards ranks eighth all-time for a single game. Grimes, who has made just two collegiate starts at QB, ranks second nationally in pass efficiency rating (191.36) and has completed 41-of-72 passes for 870 yards and nine touchdowns.

Malone senior DB Logan Francis
posted five total tackles and two interceptions in the
Pioneers’ 33-27 double-overtime win against Tiffin on
Saturday. His first pick came on the final play of the second
quarter as he snagged the ball just before it hit the turf.
Francis’ second interception then came at a critical moment
in the third quarter when he snagged the ball out of the air before
tumbling to the ground at the Malone 4-yard line, extinguishing the
Dragon scoring threat and keeping the momentum in the home
team’s favor. Logan currently has 28 tackles and one
tackle for loss this season.

Michigan Tech’s Akeem Cason
returned six kickoffs for 198 yards last Saturday (Sept. 29) vs.
Grand Valley State including a 98-yard return for a touchdown. The
senior’s third career kickoff return TD came in the third
quarter as Tech was trailing 51-14, and swung the momentum of the
game. The Huskies went on to score four consecutive touchdowns with
three more in the fourth quarter to pull within 51-43 before
running out of time. Cason now leads the GLIAC in kickoff returns
with a 31.9 yards-per-return average.
