BAY CITY, Mich. - Saginaw Valley State University junior wideout Jeff Janis (Tawas, Mich.) was named the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) "Offensive Player of the Week" for his record-setting performance in the Cardinals' 34-23 victory over Michigan Technological University last Saturday. Grand Valley State University redshirt freshman safety Brad Horling (Zeeland, Mich./East) earned "Defensive Player of the Week Honors," while Lake Erie College senior kicker Sam Marcotte (Chardon, Ohio) was tabbed "Special Teams Player of the Week."

Jeff Janis - Saginaw Valley State (JR, WR, 6-3, 205, Tawas, Mich.)
Junior wide receiver Jeff Janis had a record breaking day as he helped lead the Cardinals to a 34-23 victory over Michigan Tech. Janis hauled in a school-record 18 passes for 235 yards and three TDs. His 18 catches broke Andrew Beaver's mark of 14 that was set in 2010. Janis would go on to break Beaver's single-season receptions record as well, passing the old mark of 74 that was set in 2010. The third record he broke was the SVSU single-season receiving yards mark of 1,130 yards that was set by Glenn Martinez in 2003. Janis now has 85 catches this season for 1,289 yards and 13 TDs.

Brad Horling - Grand Valley State (RFR, DB, 6-2, 215, Zeeland, Mich./East)
Grand Valley State redshirt freshman safety Brad Horling tallied a career-high 14 tackles (11 solo/3 assisted), 2.0 tackles for loss (-5) and pass deflection in the Lakers' 42-23 victory at #24 Hillsdale College. Horling and the Laker starting defensive unit limited Hillsdale to 234 yards of total offense through three quarters of action. He currently ranks second on his squad and 12th in the GLIAC in tackles per game with 8.9. Horling has tallied a team-best 9.0 tackles for loss, while recording an interception and a fumble recovery this season.

Sam Marcotte - Lake Erie (SR, PK, 6-1, 190, Chardon, Ohio)
Senior Sam Marcotte set two school records in Lake Erie's 27-20 overtime win at Walsh on Saturday night. Marcotte scored the Storm's first points by connecting on the longest field goal in school history, a 50-yard field boot. That kick extended his consecutive games scoring streak to 42 games, every game since the opener his freshman year. He later added a 20-yard field goal to tie the game late in the fourth quarter. Then, with the game tied at 20 with less than a minute left, Marcotte pinned the Cavaliers deep in their own territory with a school-record 54-yard punt that guaranteed overtime.
