BAY CITY, Mich. -- The 2017 GLIAC Football season is flying by and Week 5 is already here. Game notes, audio, video and live stats links for five GLIAC football contests on Saturday, September 30 can be found below.
No. 20 Ashland kicked off Saturday action with a 38-0 road victory at Davenport which saw the Eagles jump out a 28-0 halftime lead as AU cruised to victory. The Ashland defense has allowed three points in the last two contests, including a 45-yard pick six from Toney Peters in the third quarter of today's win.
Tiffin survived a late Northwood scare to come out with a 31-28 triumph thanks to quarterback Nick Watson's 245 yards passing and three touchdowns on just nine completions. Watson posted TD passes of 71, 76 and 35 yards in the win as the Dargons improve to 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in league action.
No. 15 Ferris State bounced back from their first defeat of the year with a convincing 59-17 throttling of Wayne State in Big Rapids. FSU blocked a Wayne State punt less than two minutes into the contest which was covered by Danny Collins in the endzone as the Bulldogs rolled the Warriors behind three scored from QB Travis Russell.
Despite being outgained 278-224, No. 9 Grand Valley State defeated Saginaw Valley by a lopsided 34-6 margin in the latest edition of the Battle of the Valleys. GVSU's Garrett Pougnet recovered a fumble early in the fourth quarter and took it 37 yards to the house to put the game out of reach, while GVSU QB Bart Williams threw a pair of touchdowns for the Lakers.
Michigan Tech came from behind for the second consecutive week to pull out the victory in the 91st annual Miner's Cup over Northern Michigan, 28-21. NMU ran out to a quick 14-0 start on the road before Tech cut it to one at the half. Trailing by one midway through the fourth quarter, Michigan Tech's Ben Hartley caught a 6-yard touchdown pass from Jake Brown for the eventual game-winning score.
