BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 10 of the 2017 football season. Ashland University junior tailback Andrew Vaughn earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Northwood junior defensive back Chad Samuels captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors along with Wayne State senior kicker Paul Graham who claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Andrew Vaughn, Ashland
Ashland University junior tailback Andrew Vaughn ran 23 times for 161 yards and a career-high three touchdowns in the No. 11-ranked Eagles' 34-31 home win over No. 19-ranked Grand Valley State on Nov. 4. Vaughn's touchdown runs were from 53 yards in the second quarter, two yards in the third quarter and two yards in the fourth quarter. It was his fourth consecutive 100-yard game and sixth of the season, and his third game in a row with at least 150 yards and two scores on the ground.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Chad Samuels, Northwood
Northwood junior defensive back Chad Samuels intercepted a pair of passes and added a pass breakup in Northwood's 35-21 win over rival Saginaw Valley to reclaim the Axe Bowl. He also had a pair of tackles from his safety position as the Timberwolves came back from 21-7 down to score the final four touchdowns of the contest.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Paul Graham, Wayne State
Wayne State senior kicker Paul Graham made all four field goal attempts against Northern Michigan including the game-winner in the fourth quarter. The four field goals made are one shy of the school record set in 1980, and equaled the second-best total by David Chudzinski in 2008. Graham also made both PAT attempts to finish with 14 kicking points, one shy of the 15 set by Carey Starnes in 1980 vs. Towson State. Graham is the active leader among all NCAA kickers (FCS, FBS, II and III) in terms of field goal percentage with at least 17 made (29-of-32 for .906).
