Ashland's Tarnowski, Ferris State's Porter & Davenport's McGuire Named GLIAC Players of the Week

BAY CITY, Mich. -- The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) has announced its weekly awards following Week 7 of the 2017 football season. Ashland University senior quarterback Travis Tarnowski earned GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Ferris State University senior linebacker Terrell Porter captured GLIAC Defensive Player of the Week honors along with Davenport freshman kicker Jerred McGuire who claimed GLIAC Special Teams Player of the Week accolades.


OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Travis Tarnowski, Ashland

Ashland University senior quarterback Travis Tarnowski was 19-for-28 for 233 yards and five touchdowns in the No. 16-ranked Eagles' 48-0 Homecoming win over Michigan Tech. Tarnowski tied the school record for TD passes in a game for the fourth time, and became the first Ashland player to reach both 100 career touchdown passes and 10,000 career passing yards. His active streak of consecutive passes thrown without an interception has reached 219, 61 short of the NCAA Division II record of 280.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Terrell Porter, Ferris State

Ferris State University senior linebacker Terrell Porter tallied a game and personal career-high 17 tackles on Saturday as the Bulldogs rolled to a decisive 49-17 triumph over Saginaw Valley State under wet and rainy conditions in University Center, Mich. Porter's 17 tackles included three for loss and he also forced a fumble in the triumph. The Bulldog defense forced two key first-half turnovers, which both led to short fields, and shutout the Cardinals' offense in the second half to break the game open. Overall, the FSU defense tallied eight tackles for loss in earning the win and limited SVSU to a 3-of-16 (19%) showing on third down while giving up only 268 total yards.


SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Jerred McGuire, Davenport

Davenport freshman kicker Jerred McGuire sent the home crowd home happy on Saturday with a game-winning 41-yard field goal in double overtime. The Panthers got their first win of the season against McKendree (4-3) as McGuire tied a school-record with two field goals also connecting on a 23-yarder on the first play of the fourth quarter. His 41-yarder was a school record and he missed on a 47-yard field goal into the wind in the first overtime.
